What We’re Doing

The commemoration of the 250th is an opportunity to bring together people from all walks of life to explore America’s Revolutionary history and New Jersey’s important role in it. Our working groups, consisting of volunteers that reflect the diverse professions, expertise, and people of the state, will create programs and initiatives that help people engage with the Revolutionary era in all its complexity and show how the diverse people, events, places, and ideas of that time are still relevant today. Our goal is to commemorate the 250th in a way that resonates with the tapestry that makes up New Jersey – and our nation.

NJ's Commemoration of the 250th

Our events and reenactments aim to provide a creative, authentic, and inclusive commemoration of the American Revolution that connects its ideals to 250 years of American history and to American life today through accessible and immersive public events and programming.

Events & Reenactments

Education

The Education Working Group explores diverse narratives to educate and engage the public about New Jersey's rich and complex history and its pivotal role from the American Revolution to the present day.

Scholarly and Public Programming

The Scholarly and Public Programming Working Group aims to collect, preserve, and share accurate, complex and inclusive stories from NJ's revolutionary history and beyond. Its goal is to reach NJ's diverse residents and visitors, and recognize that democracy is an ongoing project – while acknowledging the displacement and oppression of people excluded from its ideals.

Civic & Community Engagement

Our goal is to foster new connections that help communities to effectively tell true accounts of our history in an effort to recognize the wholeness of our humanity, experiences, and culture. By doing so, we want to empower all New Jerseyans with the necessary resources, knowledge, skills and platforms to advance our historical understanding, while embracing our diversity. This way, we can – together – create a state that celebrates freedom and liberation of all people.

Heritage Tourism

We aim to capitalize on the nation’s 250th anniversary and the potential of New Jersey’s diversity and deep Revolutionary heritage to build and market an authentic, inclusive, and unique travel experience.
